In a heartening move, India has extended a warm gesture by approving a special provision allowing 7th-generation Indian-origin Mauritians to apply for the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Card. This announcement came during a State Banquet hosted by Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, where President Droupadi Murmu made the declaration. The initiative aims to reconnect younger Mauritians of Indian descent with their ancestral homeland, showcasing India's deep regard for shared cultural ties.

President Murmu also announced India's support for Mauritius in the redevelopment of the revered Ganga Talao complex. This project seeks to transform the site into a focal point for religious activities, cultural events, and tourism, highlighting the collaborative efforts between the two nations.

Ganga Talao, a sacred crater lake nestled in the heart of Mauritius, holds significant religious importance as the foremost Hindu pilgrimage site in the country. The redevelopment endeavor is anticipated to bolster the people-to-people connection and foster stronger bonds between India and Mauritius.

During her address, President Murmu underscored recent bilateral endeavors, including the introduction of UPI and RuPay Card settlement systems, the inauguration of new infrastructure projects, and plans for a jointly developed satellite along with the provision of eco-friendly electric buses.

Acknowledging the remarkable progress in bilateral relations, the president credited the mutual dedication of both governments. She commended Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth for his leadership, expressing optimism about the ongoing development of their special partnership.

As India strides forward on its path to becoming a developed nation and a global force, President Murmu affirmed India's commitment to enhancing ties with close allies like Mauritius. The emphasis on shared values of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (the world is one family) and "Sarvajana Sukhina Bhavantu" (may all beings be happy) underscores India's dedication to global harmony and prosperity.

President Murmu expressed her delight at being the Chief Guest during Mauritius' 56th National Day celebrations, lauding the country as a shining example of development, democracy, diversity, and dynamism. She praised the resilience of the Mauritian spirit and paid tribute to the courageous ancestors who migrated from India, particularly the 'girmitiya' indentured laborers.

The historical ties between India and Mauritius continue to flourish through collaborative efforts such as maritime security in the Indian Ocean, joint responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, and mutual support in international forums. President Murmu highlighted India's commitment to various developmental projects in Mauritius, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two nations.

As President Murmu participates in Mauritius' National Day festivities, she expressed hope for the continued growth of the special relationship between India and Mauritius.
