Mike Pompeo, the US secretary of state has planned to travel to North Korea in the week to arrive and this probably is being assumed to be the reason that the US postponed the '2+2 talks' with India slated to be hosted on July 6, according to the US sources.

On Wednesday, the US held a high-level talk with India for which Sushma Swaraj, the Minister of external affairs and Nirmala Sitharaman, the defence Minister were to reach Washington in the coming week.

Pompeo and Jim Mattis, the contemporaries of Swaraj and Sitharaman were to join the much looked forward talks also named the '2+2 talks'. The central dogma of the meeting was intended to focus on strengthening strategic, security and defence cooperation between the US and India.

It is not the first time that the 2+2 dialogue has been dismissed after scheduling it for a fixed date.  The same happened when Tillerson the secretary of state Rex was fired by President Trump.

According to FT the second cancellation was because the Minister had to fly to Pyongyang to discuss the denuclearisation plans, in reference to US President Donald Trump's historic meeting with Kim Jong Un the chairman of North Korea on the 12th of June in Singapore.

Not to drop any hints that India is not amongst the priorities of the US, the spokesperson of the US department affirmed, "the US-India relationship is a major priority for this administration, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen our partnership."

According to the official statements released by the US, the 2+2 talks have been "postponed" due to certain "unavoidable reasons" and will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

On Wednesday, Raveesh Kumar, spokesman for India's external affairs ministry, tweeted "US @SecPompeo sought EAM @SushmaSwaraj understanding, and they agreed to identify new mutually convenient dates to hold the Dialogue at the earliest, in India or the US."
