New Delhi: International Yoga Day also known as the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere is celebrated on June 21st   and is also the 9th International Day of Yoga. This year the International Day of Yoga will be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the United Nations Headquarters, in New York ad this is the first yoga day being celebrated by the PM at this place.

This day highlights the importance of doing yoga in day-to-day life which helps in making the human body feel free and fresh and also encourages physical, mental, and spiritual harmony.

Theme:-The theme for this year selected for today’s day is “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” which represents One Earth, One Family, One Future. International Yoga Day has become an occurrence in nearly 190 countries all over and is also celebrated by doing many kinds of exercises dedicated to this day.

Importance:-Yoga is a crucial gift given by the ancient people as an ancient Indian tradition. Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word “yuj” which means “to join” or “to unite”. In America, yoga day was introduced by Swami Vivekananda in 1893 by addressing the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago but in India, it was addressed in September 2014, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to the United Nations General Assembly(UNGS).

This day is also an ideal occasion to promote yoga as a healthier approach towards well-being, and a longer and more peaceful life. Yoga is the best way to rejuvenate and relax and also is the best thing to do to find yourself and connect.
