India's ties with Nepal are "unparalleled": PM Modi

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on May 15 that India's ties with Nepal are "unparalleled," a day before his visit to Lumbini in the neighbouring country for Buddha Purnima.

Modi said in a statement that he was looking forward to meeting Nepalese Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba again after their "constructive" talks last month in India. both sides will build on their shared agreement to expand cooperation in a variety of areas, including hydropower, development, and connectivity, said PM Modi.

"Nepal is one of our closest allies. Our tight connection is built on the foundation of civilisational and people-to-people contacts between India and Nepal "In his farewell statement, the prime minister stated.  "My visit is designed to commemorate and develop these time-honored ties that have been nurtured over generations and documented in our long history of intermixing," PM added.

On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, the Prime Minister will undertake a day-long visit to Lumbini on May 16. The Prime Minister's visit to Nepal will be his fifth since 2014. "On the auspicious occasion of Buddha Jayanti, I look forward to giving prayers at the Mayadevi Temple. I am honoured to walk in the footsteps of millions of Indians who have visited the sacred birthplace of Lord Buddha "he said.
