New Delhi: In October 2021, India's overall vehicle retail sales were down year over year due to semiconductor supply problems and inflationary pressures. As a result, figures issued by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) revealed a 5.33 percent drop from October 2020 to the current month. Last month, car retail sales fell to 13,64,526 units from 14,41,299 units sold in the same month in 2020.

On a sequential basis, however, last month's overall vehicle retail sales were greater than the 12,96,257 vehicles sold in September 2021. Similarly, as compared to October 2019 (pre-pandemic), last month's aggregate retail sales data indicated a decline of 26.64 percent. In October of this year, total automobile retail sales were 18,60,098 units.

Retail sales fell 18.21 percent to 20,90,893 during the 42-day festive period in 2021, compared to the same period the previous year.
