New Delhi: As per source report, India's biggest airline IndiGo is hiring more than 100 Boeing 737 commander-level pilots, mainly those exiting Jet Airways as it looks to overcome a flying-crew shortage, which led to the cancellation of several flights in the recent past. It is to b e mentioning here is Jet Airways is facing acute financial trouble and has grounded more than 60% of its planes. It has also delayed pilot salaries and defaulted on loan repayment.However, the Source report citing top industry executives aware of the development sais that it would take six months to train the Boeing pilots so that they could fly A320s, an aircraft type IndiGo operates. On top of this, IndiGo has also hired nearly 130 expatriate pilots from all over the world, the publication mentioned.

Howvever, most of IndiGo's existing pilots have already completed their annual flying quota of 1000 hours. The latest pilot hiring will help the airline expand its operation and increase its dominance in the industry. IndiGo has over 200 planes and a pilot strength of more than 3,000, including more than 1,200 commanders, of whom 50 are expatriates. The Gurugram-based airline operates about 1,300 daily flights, the business daily mentioned.Further, this year the airline plans to take delivery of 48 planes of the A320neo family, including the stretched 20-25 A321 planes, which it plans to deploy on the medium-haul international routes.

According to industry experts, hiring Boeing pilots and training them would likely be less expensive than appointing expatriate pilots.It may be noted that expat pilots charge salaries up to twice their Indian peers. Their basic salaries are about $13,000 a month.
