Earthquake engulfs 162 lives, more than 300 injured

Jakarta: Indonesia's capital Jakarta was swayed by a strong earthquake on Monday (November 21). The earthquake measured 5.6 on the Richter scale, killing 162 people and injuring more than 300. The weather and geophysics agency has informed that the epicenter of the earthquake was located in Sianjur, West Java. The epicenter of this earthquake was 10 km below. The local governor says that the earthquake has caused a lot of damage to life and property.

A 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck the main island of Java on Monday, slaying at least 162 people, a local Indonesian official said. He further said that a dozen buildings were damaged in this earthquake. According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Siyanjur region of West Java province. Local officials in the Sianjur district said dozens of buildings, including houses, were damaged. Oommen, 55, was working in the fields of his village in Cianjur. On seeing this, his house started shaking and collapsed. He himself was buried under the house. His wife was out of the house. His son somehow pulled him out. His leg was broken in the incident. He was also soaked in blood. Oommen says thank God he survived.
