The players of the Indian team have consistently performed poorly in Indonesia Masters. With the defeat of world champion PV Sindhu, India's hopes of winning the post in singles ended. Sindhu lost to Japan's Sayaka Takahashi in the women's singles quarter-finals.

The Indian challenge also ended in the Indonesia Masters badminton tournament on Thursday. Sindhu lost a one-game lead and lost 21–16, 16–21, 19–21 in a thrilling contest that lasted an hour and six minutes. World number six Sindhu had a 4–2 win record against the 14th ranked Japanese player before this match. Takahashi defeated another top Indian Saina Nehwal in the second round. After winning the first set, the Japanese player Sindhu could not maintain the momentum of her victory against them, winning the first set 21-16 and leading the way as Takahashi hit back in the second set with a 21-16 margin against Sindhu. After winning the set 1-1 in the set, the Japanese player played better than Sindhu.

The third and decisive set between the two players saw a thorn contest. In the last moments of the match, Takahashi showed a good game for Sindhu and won it by a margin of 21-19. World Championship bronze medalist B Sai Praneeth, Kidambi Srikanth and Saurabh Verma were knocked out of the tournament after losing in the second round on Wednesday. Shiai Masters were initially only came out in Theksindhu Saina Kualanlpur in the quarter-finals, but the men's singles players were not able to cross the barrier of the second round.
