Indonesian tsunami : Death toll reaches to 281, PM Modi offers assistance in the relief work

The situation in Indonesia is getting worse due to a volcano-triggered tsunami. The death toll on Monday, has risen to 281, with more than 1,000 people injured.

Hundreds of people  were injured when the tsunami struck, almost without warning, along the rim of the Sunda Strait late on Saturday. After a high tide warning, more than 3,000 coastal residents were forced to evacuate to higher ground until Tuesday.

In this poor situation Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed condolence over the death of hundreds of people in the tsunami that hit Indonesia while offering assistance in the relief work.

PM modi took to Twiiter and wrote,”Saddened by the loss of lives and destruction in Indonesia caused by the Tsunami after the eruption of a volcano. Condolences to the bereaved families and wishing the injured an early recovery. India is ready to assist our maritime neighbour and friend in relief work.”

US President Donald Trump expressed sorrow expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in the calamity. The Tweet of President reads, “Unthinkable devastation from the tsunami disaster in Indonesia. More than two hundred dead and nearly a thousand injured or unaccounted for. We are praying for recovery and healing. America is with you!”

As per the Indonesia’s disaster agency, the death toll at 222 on Sunday, with about 850 injured and 28 people missing, but raised it to 280 early on Monday.
