Gwalior: A major fire engulfed a warehouse within an illicit plastic and chemical factory located in the residential Badagaon locality of Gwalior district, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday. The factory, which had been operating without proper authorization, posed a significant risk due to its illegal status. In response to the emergency, the fire brigade promptly mobilized to the scene, deploying four water tankers to extinguish the initial flames. Despite their efforts, some residual embers reignited, prompting the dispatch of three additional firefighting vehicles. Authorities are actively working to bring the fire fully under control.

The factory's precarious location within a residential area, coupled with its lack of legal compliance, adds complexity to the situation. The walls of the factory were surrounded by residential structures on two sides, creating potential hazards for nearby residents. Additionally, the factory's unauthorized construction on government land raises concerns about its legality. The incident underscores the need for stringent actions against such unauthorized operations, with potential repercussions, including the factory's removal.

Gwalior Municipal Corporation Fire officer Atibal Singh Yadav provided insights into the challenges faced during the firefighting operation. He highlighted that the factory, aside from operating illegally, stored firecrackers and oil drums, contributing to the intensity of the fire. The situation raises questions about safety protocols, industrial compliance, and the need for thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
