Patna: Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav said on Wednesday that he has full faith in CM Nitish Kumar on the issue of caste-based census. Talking to the media after meeting CM Nitish, Tejashwi Yadav said that Nitish Kumar will soon convene an all-party meeting on this issue. CM Nitish has assured me that he will soon convene an all-party meeting to discuss the modalities of operation in the state. I have full faith in the words of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Because he has assured us, we should wait for some time.
Also Tejashwi Yadav said, CM told me that he is also in favor of conducting caste based census in the state. The RJD leader on Tuesday accused Nitish Kumar of adopting a delaying plan on the promise of conducting a caste-based census and gave him an ultimatum of 48 to 72 hours. Last year, Nitish had led an all-party delegation, of which Tejashwi Yadav was also a part. It had called on PM Narendra Modi to push for the demand for a caste-based census.
On the refusal of the Center, he had indicated that he was ready to conduct such a survey in the state after convening an all-party meeting. The last time the census of all castes was done was in 1921. Bihar leaders say that a new population estimate is necessary to formulate policies that fully address the needs of social groups.
