As per the researchers, now, the soy protein is all that is required for strong, healthy bones in adulthood. The study says that, “providing children a diet high in soy protein segregate can shield against serious bone loss during adulthood as well as help to make sure overall better bone quality.”
Jin-Ran Chen, researcher at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas, said, “Appropriate early-life nutrition can optimise peak bone mass. Consumption of soy foods has a variety of health benefits, including amelioration of bone loss during adulthood.”
According to Thoru Pederson, Editor-in-Chief of The FASEB Journal, “The centuries-old mantra that children need milk to ‘grow strong bones’ remains true, but the study shows evidence that the protein components of soy ‘milk’ have key osteogenic effects”.
“The study could ultimately have major pediatric health impacts throughout various parts of the world,” he added.
