LUCKNOW: In Lucknow,  the cold wave intensifies prompting the district administration to announce closure of all schools for students up to Class 8 till January 14 as per the earlier order.

Classes will be offered online from January 9 to 11 for Class 9 to 12 students who do not have pre-board or practical exams. Students in Classes 9 through 12 at such schools will have holidays if there is no online arrangement. School hours will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Class 10 and Class 12 students who have pre-board / practical exams from January 9 to 11.

It will be the responsibility of the school management to make proper arrangements to prevent cold in the classrooms and it should be ensured that heaters and so on, are used to maintain normal temperature in each room.

Students won't be required to do classes, practicals, or exams outside in the open. Although wearing a uniform is not required, it is recommended that students be admitted even if they are wearing bright, comfortable clothing.

According to District Magistrate Surya Pal Gangwar, officers at the district level have been tasked with ensuring strict adherence to the directive.

On Monday, a severe cold wave that had been affecting northern India for five days straight continued. Communication has been hampered by record-low temperatures and poor visibility, which has forced schools to extend breaks.

The fog layer has moved across Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, passing through the states of Bihar, Chandigarh, and northwest Rajasthan, according to satellite images and visibility data.
