Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai urged deputy commissioners on Thursday to step up the Covid vaccination campaign in order to boost the state's second dose coverage.

"The state has achieved 90 percent coverage of the first dosage and the amount of coverage of the second dose is at 57 percent," Bommai stated during a virtual meeting with deputy commissioners to examine the status of the vaccination push in the state. By the end of December, the second dose coverage should have reached 70 percent." Bengaluru Urban District ranks first in terms of vaccination, whereas Kalaburagi ranks last.

Bommai said, deputy commissioners should devote at least one hour every day to the vaccination programme, in addition to forming teams to visit communities and persuade people to be vaccinated. The Chief Minister also warned against complacency in the immunisation campaign, despite a decrease in Covid cases in the state.

"In many nations, the instances are on the rise once more. In Karnataka, we must not give any room for a hypothetical third wave," he warned.
