Have you ever heard of Pangong Lake? It is also known as 'Pangong Tso'. It is a lake in the Himalayas, which is situated at an altitude of about 4500 meters. The 135-km long lake is spread over 604 square kilometers and at its widest point it is six kilometers wide. Today we are going to tell you about this lake. The most important thing about this salt water lake is that it freezes completely in winter, after which you can also drive a car or play ice skating or polo on it. However, special permission has to be taken for this.

You might not know about this, but 45 km area of this lake is located in India (Ladakh), while its 90 km area falls in Tibet (China). It is also believed that the Line of Actual Control passes through the middle of this lake. However, confusion about its exact condition often persists. The water of this lake is so saline that there is no fish or any other aquatic life in it. However, it is an important breeding ground for many migratory birds. The average temperature of this lake varies between minus 18 degrees to minus 40 degrees. It is also believed that this lake changes its color several times a day, the reason behind which is the presence of iron in the water.

Let us tell you that this was the place from where China started its main offensive during the 1962 war. The Indian Army also fought the battle bravely from the mountain pass Rejang La in the southeastern end of the Chushul valley. In the last few years, China has also built roads along the banks of Pangong Lake. According to mythological beliefs, this lake is the main place of Yaksha Raj Kubera. It is believed that the 'divine city' of Lord Kubera is situated somewhere around this lake. It is also found in Ramayana and Mahabharata. Although there is so much truth in this, hardly anyone can tell this.
