New Delhi: The government is committed to promoting agriculture and cooperatives in the country. Despite the low contribution to GDP, a large number of people in the region depend on employment. The central government has set a target of creating a five trillion dollar economy in the next five years. Inaugurating the Indian International Cooperative Trade Fair-2019, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare said that there is a need to make the products of the cooperative sector competitive in the global market. Agriculture Minister Tomar also launched brand products of Startup Yuva Sahakar Scheme and Sahakar Bharti's 'Simply Desi' at this international fair held at Gati Maidan.
Tomar said, 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a target to make the country's economy of five trillion. We have to focus on the village, the poor and the farmer to achieve that'. The role of the high potential cooperative sector will be important in achieving this goal. Tomar said that cooperative culture is not a new subject for India. This can be further enhanced by making it competitive in the global market. There are companies in the cooperative sector in the country, whose stigma is not ringing internationally, but also in the country. There is a dire need to exploit the potential of this sector.
