The threat of new variants is visible as international flight operations resume between several countries. Officials also said that many of them also monitored the time between doses of the vaccine. Telangana's Director of Public Health Dr Srinivasa Rao said there is a possibility of new forms and people should get vaccinated immediately and wear a mask every time they step out of their home.

Health officials said that around 65 lakh people in Telangana have not taken a single dose of the COVID vaccine, though they also said that many people missed their second shot of the vaccine. 36 lakh people in the state have missed the due date of the second dose. Although the cases of Kovid are decreasing significantly in the state, but due to non-availability of vaccines at some centres, lack of awareness among people to take the second dose, the cases are threatening to increase further. The Health Department report revealed that 30 percent of the cases reported every day were in people who did not get the second dose of the vaccine. Despite claims from health officials on the availability of adequate doses in the state, people walk back from the centres.

"The public will be 100 per cent safe only when they get the second dose of the vaccine. About 60 per cent of the people who have not received the vaccine are infected with the virus," the official said. Rao further said that the vaccination program for children will be started in a week or two after the Center issues the guidelines. "The Center had already approved the Zydus Cadila vaccine for children aged two to eighteen years," he said.
