Sri Lankan PM Mahinda on 5-day tour to India, meets Manohan Singh and Rahul

New Delhi: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa reached New Delhi on Friday, February 7, 2020, on a five-day visit to India. Where Union Minister Sanjay Dhotre welcomed him at Delhi Airport. During his visit, he will discuss important issues like trade, defense, and maritime security. It is also being said that this is his first visit to India since his brother Gotabaya Rajapaksa was elected President in November last year.

In New Delhi, on Friday, February 7, 2020, Rajapaksa met former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and discussed many issues. Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma was also present during the meeting. Sri Lankan leaders will meet President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday. Rajapaksa will also visit Mahatma Gandhi's Samadhi Rajghat and pay floral tributes there. Apart from his official programs in Delhi, Rajapaksa will also visit Varanasi, Sarnath, Bodh Gaya and Tirupati. This is Mahinda's first foreign visit after his younger brother Gotabaya Rajapaksa became President last November. Gotabaya made the elder brother Mahinda the Prime Minister after taking the oath of office.

On the other hand, Mahinda's office had said that these meetings will strengthen the existing relations between the two countries. On this tour, PM Mahinda will also try to finalize the loan of $ 450 million (about Rs 3200 crore) from India.
