India is a land of some of the rarest wildlife species in the world. While the country is currently following a number of travel restrictions, most states coming up with their own set of requirements, you can definitely bookmark these offbeat wildlife destinations. These are place that are off a regular tourist's bucket list; places so fascinating that you will be strikingly close to the wild side of India.

Nagarhole National Park, Karnataka
This wildlife reserve in South India is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, and is usually off the radar of wildlife enthusiasts. At just 50 km from Mysuru, it is home to Bengal tigers, sloth bear, Indian leopard, striped hyena, porcupine, Indian giant flying squirrel, golden jackal, Indian pangolin, European otter and a number of other animals. It forms Southern India's largest protected area along with the Bandipur National Park, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and Mudumalai National Park.

Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve, Uttarakhand
This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and will leave you awestruck. It is also home to the Nanda Devi National Park, which is home to a host of species including the Himalayan black bear, snow leopards, Himalayan musk deer, rhesus macaque and more. Other than that, the landscape here is more than just stunning.

Kaziranga National Park, Assam
Another World Heritage Site, Assam's Kaziranga National Park is home to 33 species of mammals, out of which 15 are threatened according to the IUCN Red List. Its most famous inhabitant is the one-horned rhinoceros and has the world's largest population of the species. It is also famous as one of the very few wild breeding areas for Bengal tigers and leopards.

Agumbe Reserve Forest, Karnataka
This reserve forest is set in the Western Ghats, and is famed for receiving an annual rainfall in excess of 7000 mm. The Agumbe Rainforest Research Station is housed in the forest itself, and is a major conservation and research station. The forest here is a habitat to 32 species of mammals, 45 reptiles, more than 200 reptiles and 100+ butterfly varieties; its most famous resident is the King Cobra!

Hemis National Park, Ladakh
The Hemis National Park is set in the high Himalayas of Ladakh and is famed for being home to the highest density of snow leopards in a protected area. Shockingly stunning landscape at Hemis is a sight to behold. Wildlife enthusiasts here have a chance at eyeing the elusive leopards; it is also inhabited by the Great Tibetan sheep, Bharal, Asiatic ibex, blue sheep, Ladakhi urial, Himalayan marmot, mountain weasel as well as a number of birds of prey.
