Karti Chidambaram, on Friday, was again sent to three-day CBI custody by a Delhi court. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had produced him in the court appealing for six-day custody after the previous three-day custody expired on Friday following which the court ordered a three-day extension of the custody.

Karti Chidambaram was arrested on February 28 from Chennai Airport and has been since in CBI custody. He is being questioned by the CBI in connection with the INX Media money laundering case. Allegedly, he has facilitated FIPB approvals of the company when his father P. Chidambaram was the finance minister in the then ruling UPA government. He is accused by the CBI of receiving a bribe from the two owners of the company, Peter and Indrani Mukherjea.

Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, while appearing for CBI, said that the investigation has progressed and a CD has been discovered. The CD needs to be sent for examination while seeking an extension to the custody. He further added that CBI wants Karti Chidambaram to confront the evidence collected against him.

Earlier in the day, the court passed an order to prevent Enforcement Directorate (ED) from arresting junior Chidambaram before March 20.
