New Delhi: The hearing has been completed in the Supreme Court on the anticipatory bail of former Finance Minister Chidambaram in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case related to INX Media scam. The Supreme Court has reserved the verdict. The court will pronounce its verdict on September 5, as long as the interim stay on Chidambaram's arrest remains intact. The court asked the ED to file the transcript within 3 days.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for ED during a hearing in the Supreme Court on Thursday, said that if the Supreme Court gives anticipatory bail to Chidambaram, it will have disastrous consequences. This is because it will have a negative impact on matters like Vijay Mallya, Mehul Choksi, Nirav Modi, Sharda Chit fund, Terror Funding. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta opposed the demand for arrest questioning without showing evidence, saying that the agency is responsible for the investigation. The accused, who is walking freely, means inviting him to delete the remaining evidence.

Tushar Mehta said it is entirely the authority of the agency to proceed with the investigation. In terms of the case, the agency determines at which stage the evidence should be revealed and which are not. If all the evidence before an arrest is placed before the accused, it will allow the accused to tamper with the evidence and eliminate the money trail.
