Elections were to be held this year, in which 30 candidates of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) were to be selected for four terms. But after the Tokyo Olympics was postponed for a year due to the coronavirus, the IOC Executive Board (EB) has also decided to pursue the election of the Athletes Commission.

IOC President Thomas Bak said, "EB was unanimous that this is a difficult time and we need full representation of athletes in the commission. At this time the voice of the athletes is very important and we have any The post should not be vacant. "

The four athletes who will be selected by their teammates will replace these four members, including IOC AC Chair Kirsty Coventry (Zimbabwe), Vice-Chair Danka Bartekova (Slovakia), Tony Estunget (France) and James Eskins (Australia) Are included. The IOC's Athletes Commission consists of 23 members. Of these, 12 members are directly elected by their peers while another 11 are appointed. They have a maximum tenure of eight years.
