New Delhi: Skipper KL Rahul's brilliant half-century and disciplined bowling gave Punjab Kings (PBKS) a nine-wicket victory. With this, PBKS's three-match losing streak in IPL 2021 also broke down. PBKS bowlers Ravi Bishnoi (2/21 in 4 overs) and Mohammed Shami (2/21 in 4 overs) bowled brilliantly. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) managed to score only 131 runs for wickets of six wickets.

Though Mumbai is known to defend the low score, the Punjab batsmen did not allow one of the Mumbai bowlers to walk and achieved the target in 17.4 overs. Opening batsmen KL Rahul (60 not out) and Mayank Agarwal (25 runs) shared a 53-run partnership. However, PBKS's only wicket fell to Mayank. But Chris Gayle, who came in to bat after that, played stormy innings. Gayle scored 43 off 35 balls, including five fours and two sixes.

The win was PBKS's second in five matches while Mumbai suffered their third defeat in five matches. Mumbai tried to make a comeback in the match after Agarwal's dismissal. But Rahul and Gayle made the match in favor of Punjab. The duo put on an unbeaten 79-run stand. Gayle's innings, which was five fours and two sixes, was equally important in terms of the run chase. Rahul ends the match with a straight six off Trent Boult.
