IPL 2022: Akash Chopra's big statement: 'KKR won't retain the captain himself'

Akash Chopra said there have been no reports of KKR retaining his captain Eoin Morgan before the 2022 auction IPL. Morgan replaced Dinesh Karthik as KKR captain in the half-stage of IPL 2020. The England limited-overs captain managed to help the franchise make it to the playoffs last year and is currently seventh in the IPL 2021 points table. In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Akash Chopra has deeply stated that KKR lacks retention options, as well as franchises, are likely to release Morgan.

He continued by saying that "unfortunately KKR didn't have too many options. There was a time when they used to have a lot of options. They are not going to retain the captain themselves, I don't think they should do it. The former KKR player feels that the franchise should still retain Andre Russell and Shubman Gill as their first 2 options, while the latter next be named as the captaincy candidate.''

He adds that "the first retention, in my opinion, is going to be Andre Russell. The second retention you can accept Gill, you should start looking at him through the libations of captaincy. If you let Gill go, you're going to retain him very expensively. I don't think you can be able to build your team around anyone, not too much Indian batting talent is available. You might want to bring in Ishan Kishan, but that's the dynamic of the auction. It's going to depend on the way it works."
