New Delhi: The list of retained players for the IPL's initial eight franchises has been announced ahead of the mega auction in 2022. There are a lot of surprising names on the list, as well as a lot of notable names that were left off by the teams. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have surprised everyone by keeping all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as the number one player and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the number two player. Dhoni would receive Rs 12 crore, while Ravindra Jadeja will receive Rs 16 crore.

CSK's choice has also helped to clarify their future. In the near future, Jadeja might replace Mahi for CSK. The Delhi Capitals (DC) have also kept Kapta Rishabh Pant as number one, with Akshar Patel at number two. Prithvi Shaw and Enrique Norkia have also been retained by DC. Rishabh Pant will receive Rs 16 crore, Akshar will receive Rs 9 crore, Prithvi Shaw will receive Rs 7.5 crore, while Norkia will receive Rs 6.5 crore from the Delhi franchises. Despite their outstanding performances for DC, Shreyas Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Kagiso Rabada did not make the Delhi selection.

Delhi has a huge number of options from which to pick four players. Iyer is a leadership possibility for Ahmedabad and Lucknow, while Ashwin and Rabada might be retained in the Delhi auction. Mayank Agarwal was retained in lieu of KL Rahul, and he will be paid Rs 12 crore. Punjab also kept pacer Arshdeep Singh as an uncapped player.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have opted not to keep David Warner, as predicted, and have replaced him with Ken Williamson (14 crore) and two uncapped Indian players, Abdul Samad (4 crore) and Umaran Malik (14 crore) (4 crore). England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler and Safal Jaiswal, as well as Sanju Samson, have been retained by Rajasthan Royals (RR) (14 crore). While Shah Rukh Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have placed a bet on two young Indian players, Varun Chakraborty (8 crore) and Venkatesh Iyer (8 crore), who both performed well for KKR in the 2021 season, Andre Russell (12 crore) and Sunil Narine (6 crore), who have been associated with KKR for a long time, are also on the list.
