The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made a big statement about the Indian Premier League (IPL). On Friday, International Cricket Council President Greg Barclay said that if the duration of hosting a T20 league like the IPL is increased, then the number of bilateral series between international teams may be reduced. A total of 74 matches have been held after the addition of two new teams in the current season of THE IPL. In IPL 2021, only a total of 60 matches were played.

Greg Barclay said, "But such domestic tournaments are under the jurisdiction of member countries. They can run it as they wish. But the increase in its figures and in the long run has meant that there will be a decrease in bilateral matches between international teams. We also know that there are only 365 days in a year.''

The ICC president, however, praised the IPL, saying he loves this breathtaking T20 league. "I haven't been able to travel for two years. It's great to be back in India and this is my first trip to the IPL. I like the IPL which is a great event. I think India and the BCCI have done something amazing with cricket. It's a competition that it's a matter of pride to watch and be a part of.'' Greg Barclay also said that after the release of the media rights of the IPL by the BCCI, the ICCC will float a tender for media rights for the 2024-2031 season. "I am very excited that there is a lot of interest in media rights. I think there are some partners who will be able to work with the ICC and they will be able to play positive characters in the development of cricket.''
