The IPL2018  will kick off  from April 7 and Star India has the right to broadcast it. Star India has purchased the media rights of IPL for 5 years in the Rs 16,347 crore (i.e. approximately 2.55 billion dollars). In this way, the BCCI is going to earn 23.3 lakh rupees from each ball thrown in the IPL and this amount is more than the GDP of 30 countries of the world. Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi also quipped on Twitter, saying that the amount is more than the GDP of countries like Bhutan and Maldives. There are 195 countries in the world and out of them  total amount of GDP of 30 countires has equal cost which will spend over IPL2018 matches. The popularity of the tenth f IPL is 22.5% higher than that before. Thus, revenues can be expected to increase further.

According to Uday Shankar, chief executive of Star India, this is a big challenge to  hold the broadcast rights, but he could be successful asthere is considerable difference between 2008 and 2018. 24 companies were in queue to documents for broadcast rights of IPL2018, but only 14 of them participated in the bid. The bid that Sony has made is around 11000 crores. But Star made bets for all rights by creating an agave plan. After all, his strategy Star has been successful and got this contract from 2018 to 2022.
