Mumbai: The Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) has been passed in both the Houses of Parliament. Violent protests are taking place in Assam against this. People have come on the streets, stones are being pelted somewhere and arson is happening somewhere. Government properties are being harmed. It is now reported that an IPS officer has resigned in protest of this bill. According to the information, Abdur Rahman, posted as IGP in Maharashtra Human Rights Commission, has resigned from his post.

While tweeting on Wednesday (December 11), Rahman has said, "This Bill is against the religious pluralism of India. I request all justice-loving people to oppose the bill in a democratic manner. It runs against the very basic feature of the Constitution. @ndtvindia @IndianExpress #CitizenshipAmendmentBill2019"

The IPS officer has also shared his resignation with his tweet. In which it is written, 'I applied for VRS on August 1, 2019. After this, on 25 October 2019, the State Government sent the recommendation of my VRS to the Union Home Ministry, but the Ministry of Home Affairs did not accept it. He also challenged this rejection in court. The court's decision in this matter is yet to come.
