DUBAI: The detention of prominent human rights activists in Tehran is part of Iran's ongoing campaign to arrest prominent people connected to the country's ongoing protests.
University student Bahareh Hedayat was taken into custody early on October 3, according to Radio Farda, as protests against strict social restrictions, political repression, and a failing economy reached a peak in Tehran and spread to distant provinces.

According to the report, which cited the BBC, Hedayat is a former political prisoner who has been detained and locked up numerous times.
Another political activist, Hossein Masumi, was detained on October 2; his whereabouts are unknown, according to his family.

Despite government efforts to put an end to them, the protests—which were sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini, 22, while she was being held by Iran's morality police for allegedly breaking the Islamic dress code—have been going on for three weeks.

In order to put an end to the protests, the Iranian government has been using the terms "riots" and "sedition," which has led to the detention of prominent figures.
