According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the country is prepared to have bilateral talks with each of the countries involved in the 2020 crash of a Ukrainian passenger airliner near Tehran.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed condolences to the victims' families, saying that Iran's preparedness comes despite "illegal efforts by certain governments aiming to gain political benefits" by exploiting the accident and the victims' families' sorrow. Any discussions should be based on goodwill, respect for nations' sovereignty, internal laws, and international obligations, according to the statement.

Following the sad event, the Ministry underlined that all of the country's connected organisations declared the major cause of the tragedy and performed their obligations "precisely, honestly, and immediately" in accordance with domestic law and international commitments. The announcement was made in response to an united statement on reparations issued on Thursday by Canada, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Ukraine, all of whose people were killed in the tragedy.

The four countries said they had given up on talks with Iran over reparations for the jet disaster and would instead try to settle the case according to international law. The Ukraine passenger aircraft was shot down by Iranian missiles shortly after taking off from Tehran on January 8, 2020, killing all 176 persons on board. Iran alleged that the jet was shot down "accidentally" by its military.On Friday, a ceremony at Tehran's Behesht Zahra cemetery marked the second anniversary of the sad accident victims.
