TEHRAN: The Iranian and Saudi Arabian embassies in Riyadh and Tehran, respectively, have reopened, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said.

In a meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, who was in town, Amir-Abdollahian claimed that Iran solely aims to advance the interests of the region.

As per Xinhua news report, he lauded the Iraqi government for its initiatives to promote regional cooperation and participate constructively in the normalisation negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia and also other Middle Eastern countries.

Amir-Abdollahian added that Iran supports the continuation of the ceasefire in Yemen, underlining the necessity of removing the siege on the Arab state. Iran insists that the answer to regional crises resides within the area.

The foreign minister said that boosting ties between Cairo and Tehran will be beneficial for the region and the Muslim world given the similarities between Egypt and Iran. The prime minister of Iraq emphasised Iran's significant position and role in regional events and declared that his nation is serious about forging relations with Iran. He gave his host the reassurance that Iraq will keep up its efforts to promote communication and collaboration among the states of the region.
