TEHRAN: Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi stated on Tuesday that Iran has not and will not compromise on any of its red lines in the talks to resurrect the 2015 nuclear deal.

According to Xinhua news agency, quoting the Iranian presidency's website, Raisi made the remarks during a meeting in the Iranian capital Tehran, where he added that his government was pursuing the strategy of "neutralising the sanctions" with seriousness as a first step.

Iran hopes to lift US sanctions in the second step, according to Raisi, through conversations in which full respect for the country is guaranteed.

He stated that his government is conducting negotiations in Vienna, Austria, based entirely on the principles and framework established by Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and adhering to the country's stated red lines.

In July 2015, Iran and international powers signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). However, in May 2018, former US President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the agreement and reimposed unilateral sanctions on Iran.

Eight rounds of discussions between Iran and major JCPOA partners, particularly Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany, have been held in Vienna since April 2021 in an attempt to resurrect the accord. Indirectly, the United States has been involved in the negotiations.
