On Wednesday, Irani Cup 2018 began in Nagpur with Vidarbha taking on Rest of India for the glory. Some of the big stars of Indian cricket are headlining this game. King XI Punjab skipper R Ashwin will be with the Rest of India while Umesh Yadav is back for Vidarbha. Vidarbha went on to win the toss and elected to bat first. The Ranji Trophy winners got off to a bright start with skipper Faiz Fazal and R Sanjay building a 101-run partnership. Sanjay went on to complete his half century. Jayant Yadav gave the first blow dismissing him for 53. The captain also completed his half century immediately afterwards as he and the experienced Wasim Jaffer started building another partnership. Jaffer also completed his half century. The duo went on to take Vidarbha over 200. Fazal was dismissed by Ashwin on 89. Vidarbha reach 218/2 at Tea on Day 1.  

Wasim Jaffer and Faiz Fazal bring up the 200 for Vidarbha and they also bring up their 100-run stand. A solid stand and the latter is approaching his century quickly. No bowler has been effective for Rest of India. Vidarbha will be very happy with the first session. In 39 overs, they have made 126 runs and lost only one wicket. Faiz Fazal is unbeaten on 53 while Wasim Jaffer is unbeaten on 16. Sanjay Ramaswamy the only batsman dismissed for 53 runs.
