Tehran: According to the foreign ministry of the South Caucasus nation, an assassin who was carrying an assault rifle opened fire on a security post at the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran. In the early-morning incident on Friday, the head of the embassy security was killed and two guards were hurt.

The ministry deemed the survivors' health to be "satisfactory" and promised to update the public as the investigation into the "treacherous attack" progresses.

On social media, there are pictures allegedly depicting the incident's aftermath, one of which is a graphic image of a body covered in a sheet lying on bloody ground. A brief video clip was taken of the same body without the cover.

More video taken in front of the embassy reveals police vehicles and a man who appears to be receiving treatment for an arm wound.

According to Sardar Hossein Rahimi, the head of the Tehran police, the shooter was detained right away after the incident. He claimed that the shooter had brought his two young children with him to the embassy and that police thought the attack was carried out because of a personal grudge.

Following the news, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed "shock." On social media, spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed sympathy and support for the Azerbaijani colleagues.
