The European Union (EU)  and the United States must return to full compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), according to the Iranian ambassador to the United Nations, who spoke to reporters at the UN's headquarters in New York.

"It is now up to the United States and the European Union to live up to their obligations and return to full compliance with the JCPOA. It is up to them to make the decision. We hope they take use of this opportunity "On Tuesday, Majid Takht Ravanchi stated.

The ambassador made the comments following the UN Security Council's bi-monthly meeting on the JCPOA, or Iranian accord, and Resolution 2231, which was enacted on July 20, 2015 by the Security Council approving the JCPOA on Iran's nuclear programme.

"The only solution is all parties' commitment to the full, effective, and verifiable implementation of the JCPOA; no more, no less - as we have stated time and time again," the ambassador said. "Iran has kept its promises and done far more than its fair share to keep the JCPOA alive," he continued. "Obviously, Iran needs assurances that all sanctions will be lifted; the US will not withdraw from the agreement again, and it will not abuse the procedures outlined in the JCPOA and Resolution 2231," Ravanchi added.
