Baghdad: Iran continues to warn against U.S. sanctions over oil sales But when the U.S. on Monday announced new sanctions targeting Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, most Iranian leaders described the move as ridiculous. With the new U.S. sanctions in place, Iran's supreme religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other leaders will not be able to take advantage of economic facilities in the U.S. territory.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has also rejected new U.S. sanctions and described Donald Trump as "mentally deranged". Iran has been using the term against U.S. President Donald Trump in the past. In a state television speech, Rouhani said the sanctions against Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei will be completely thwarted as they have no assets abroad.
Rohani has termed the new ban as America's frustration. He has said that the White House's actions show that he has become mentally deranged. Tehran's strategic restraint should not be interpreted as a means that we are afraid of anyone. A semi-official newspaper and the Fars news agency, which is associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp., described the new sanctions as ridiculous.
