New Delhi: IRCTC, which handles the catering and tourism of the Indian Railways, has decided to cancel the services of more than 500 supervisors (hospitality supervisors). All these employees were working on contract. IRCTC said that, 'In the present circumstances, there is no need for them.' In 2018, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) appointed about 560 supervisors to check the quality of food served by contractors in trains. The job of these supervisors was to monitor the operation of trains catering coaches.

Under this, they had to supervise the preparation of food, check the quality, resolve the complaints of the passengers and ensure that no more money was taken from the prescribed price for food. IRCTC, through a letter on 25 June, informed all its zonal offices in this regard that there is no need for these employees in the present circumstances. In such a situation, their contract will be terminated by giving them one month's notice.

According to the news agency PTI, a spokesperson for IRCTC confirmed the developments when contacted, but indicated that the organization is reconsidering the decision. IRCTC spokesman Siddharth Singh told the media on Monday that, 'We are reconsidering the case. We are considering whether this decision may be reconsidered. Some steps will be taken in this regard.
