Chennai: Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore Police on Tuesday (June 14, 2022) arrested an ABVP worker for posting on social media in support of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. The ABVP worker, arrested from Senanoor on the outskirts of Coimbatore, has been identified as 24-year-old Karthi. Tamil Nadu Police said Karti had shared a video of the objectionable remarks Nupur Sharma made about the Prophet Muhammad of Islam during a TV news debate last month. While sharing the video, he wrote that, 'I will say this everyday. Nupur Sharma said what was written. What did he say wrong?'

The Cyber Crime Unit of Coimbatore Police has registered a case against Karti under Section 153A of the IPC and Section 67 of the IT Act. Police say that this post may increase enmity between two communities, hence the case was registered. Karti's social media post has also been removed. After arresting Karti, he was produced before a judicial magistrate and then sent to judicial custody. Several right-wing organizations have questioned the Tamil Nadu government for arresting Karti.

Let us inform that earlier a 19-year-old engineering student named Saad Ashfaq Ansari was arrested by the police in Maharashtra's Bhiwandi for posting in support of Nupur Sharma. The point to be noted here is that how many of the radicals who threatened Nupur Sharma with murder and rape have been arrested? Is supporting Nupur a bigger crime than threatening her with rape and murder?
