To find out, the pages of Karnataka's state will have to be reversed in 2008. In the 2008 assembly elections, the BJP, led by B.S. Yeddyurappa, had emerged as the single largest party with 110 seats, but still the chair of power was 3 seats away from it. While Yeddyurappa had secured the CM's chair with the help of six independent selections at that time, he had well understood that a government with the support of independents would not remain stable. It is then said that Yeddyurappa ran Operation Kamal to increase his strength in the House.

It is said that under this operation, opposition PARTY MLAs were lured into the BJP with money. Thus the BJP took its strength to 124 in the House and secured its power. The operation was the result of the strength gained from kamal that the BJP government, which came to power in 2008, managed to take over the five-year term in turn under the leadership of three chief ministers even after a lot of upheavals.
