HYDERABAD: Odisha state Agriculture and Farmers' Empowerment Department and Indian School of Business (ISB) signed a Memorandum of Agreement on April 10 to strengthen Agriculture - Nutrition linkages to improve nutrition outcomes.

Ranendra Pratap Swain, the agriculture minister for Odisha, attended the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement, according to an ISB press release.

The collaboration's goals are to  deepen the convergence of agriculture and nutrition with an emphasis on fruits, vegetables, and foods derived from animals, and  to create a climate resilience support cell that will aid in the development of sustainable and climate resilient agricultural pathways.

Indian School of Commerce will help Odisha Agriculture to boost access to, affordability of, and availability of nutrient-dense foods such fruits, vegetables, and foods derived from animals in order to improve nutrition outcomes for low-income households.

In order to improve nutrition outcomes, agriculture-nutrition convergence, policy, markets, and technology will be used, and ISB will offer the pertinent research and technical support. The Odisha Agricultural Department will serve as the coordination point for policies and programmes across various and related government departments and stakeholders.

In addition, a climate resilience support cell would be established in collaboration between ISB and the Odisha Agricultural Department.

ISB will conduct research to pinpoint and comprehend the elements that influence the adaptability of crops, farmers, and rural livelihoods in Odisha to climate change.

A strategy for climate-resilient agriculture in Odisha would be developed with the assistance of ISB and the Agricultural Department.

At the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement, Prof. Ashwini Chhatre, Executive Director of ISB's Bharti Institute of Public Policy, stated, "Improving nutrition outcomes, particularly among low-income consumers in underserved geographies, requires an enhanced focus on markets, building on new and emerging technologies. In order to produce better nutrition results, ISB will work with the Odisha Agricultural Department to take advantage of possibilities and address obstacles in the convergence of agriculture and nutrition.

The Bharti Institute of Public Policy at ISB will also conduct research in order to produce a thorough report and case study on the Odisha Millets Mission, a significant and groundbreaking initiative by the Government of Odisha to promote millets and raise awareness about their nutritional qualities and health advantages.
