Kolkata: During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, there were violent clashes between Trinamool Congress (TMC) and BJP workers who were on power in West Bengal. In the meantime, the statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar in Kolkata was smashed on 14th May. The TMC and the BJP had accused each other of breaking the statue.

The new statue is now being installed at the same place, i.e., at the Vidyasagar College in Kolkata. This is being put up in the afternoon in the presence of West Bengal CM and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee will also pay homage to the Godawari Chandra Vidyasagar at the Green School at 1 pm. They will then lay the foundation stone of their new statue on foot to the college.

There has been a clash between the two student parties over the statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar at the Vidyasagar College in Nadiya. There has been a quarrel between the All India Trinamool Congress (TMCP) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The TMCP has since alleged that ABVP wants to occupy the college. Let me tell you that during the violence between BJP president Amit Shah's election roadshow in Kolkata on May 14, a statue of the great philosopher, social reformer and author Thechandra Vidyasagar was broken in the college campus.
