In the sixth season of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL), two-time champions Chennai FC and defending champions Bengaluru FC will take on the field against each other at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Sunday. Chennai, who have won four consecutive wins in the last four matches, can reduce the gap between fourth-placed Mumbai City by winning this match. Chennai is currently at number 5 with 21 points from 14 matches. The hosts would also like to miss the revenge of the previous 0–3 defeat to Bengaluru.
Bangalore's team is currently at number 3 in the table with 28 points from 15 matches and the team's eyes are on reaching the top. If Bengaluru wins this match, then it will reach the second number and will be only two points behind FC Goa at the top. Coach Owen Cooley's Chennai FC beat the Kerala Blasters team 6-3 in their last match. The Chennai team has scored 22 goals in 8 matches under the guidance of coach Cooley.
The Bangalore team has scored 19 goals so far this season. Bengaluru beat Hyderabad FC 1–0 in their last match. The defense of the team is also very strong and so far they have scored only 9 goals. The Bengaluru coach said, "We are fighting for a place in the AFC Champions League and so we need to score."
