Bangalore: A man carrying a crude bomb in an autorickshaw in Karnataka's Mangalore was about to target the famous Manjunath temple in Kadri on Saturday. However, the bomb exploded before the "real purpose" could be executed. Now the police have received a letter in this regard. The letter is written on the letterhead of a group that calls itself the Islamic Resistance Council (IRC). Police said they have not heard of the group so far.

Treating the blast as a "terrorist incident", the police have arrested the 29-year-old accused, Mohammad Shariq. Mohammad Shariq himself was injured in this blast and is admitted to the hospital. Meanwhile, Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Praveen Sood said on Wednesday that the investigation into the blast case in an auto rickshaw in Mangalore will be officially handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He said the main accused, Mohammad Shariq, was aimed at creating enmity between communities.

Police have told that senior police officer Alok Kumar has also been threatened in the letter. This letter has been received by the Intelligence Department. According to media reports, a source has told 'It is not clear where the letter came from. The name of this organization has come to the fore for the first time. We are investigating whether the letter is authentic or not. The letter was written in English and has the photograph of accused Mohammad Shariq printed on it.' It states that he "attempted to attack Hindutva temple in Kadri, a stronghold of saffron terrorists in Mangalore."
