Srinagar: The last rites of Viranjan Paswan, a resident of Saidpur village in Bhagalpur district of Bihar, who lost his life due to terrorist firing in Srinagar, the capital of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, were performed at Dudhganga Ghat on the banks of river Jhelum in Srinagar on Wednesday. The district administration had asked for his body to be sent to Bhagalpur by air but he was cremated in Srinagar after the consent of the family of the deceased.

After the incident, Srinagar DM Mohammad Ejaz Asad also handed over a cheque of 1.25 lakh rupees to the family members of Viranjan Paswan as help. Out of the funds given to the victim, one lakh SDRF and 25,000 have been given by the Red Cross Society. Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu said he was not aware of the incident earlier but will now go to Srinagar to console the family members of the victim. According to the report, Viranjan's eldest son Vikram has said that his father used to work as a labourer in Kolkata and had gone to Srinagar two and a half years ago. He used to sell Golgappe on a cart there.

Vikram said he has 6 siblings. According to the deceased's wife Putul Devi, Viranjan called last Monday and said he was going to come home in Navratri. He had also booked his ticket. But, later his brother called to say that he had been killed by the terrorists. He was the only supporter in his house. The family also has a debt of Rs 73,000. The Islamic State of Jammu and Kashmir has taken responsibility for the murder. It is also known as Islamic State Vilaya Hind.
