Jenin: Early on Monday morning, the Israel Defence Forces and the Shin Bet security service began a massive offensive to "thwart the threat of terrorism" throughout the West Bank. A militant command centre allegedly was the target of the joint operation in the refugee camp in Jenin city.
The IDF stated that it struck "terror infrastructure" in the city at around two in the morning and that the Jenin camp had been transformed into a "terrorist stronghold." The military claimed it conducted a raid on a joint command centre for several armed groups that "served as an observation post, a gathering place for armed terrorists before and after terror acts, a cache for munitions and bombs, and a communications centre."
The Israeli military added in a brief press release that it "will not idly stand by while terrorists continue to harm civilians using the Jenin Camp as a hideout."
According to Lt. Col. Richard Hecht, an Israeli military spokesman, "operational sites used by terrorists" are "located next to schools, a medical centre, and civilian houses." "We are acting to dismantle this hornets nest," Hecht wrote in a tweet.

Seven Palestinians, including two teenagers, were killed in a raid in Jenin last month by Israeli helicopters. In a separate incident, a roadside bomb injured eight Israeli soldiers as they engaged in combat with armed Palestinian militants. In the first case of a targeted killing in the West Bank since 2006, an Israeli drone struck a car carrying three Palestinians who were believed to have attacked an army checkpoint a few days later, according to the Times of Israel.
