TEL AVIV:  Israel authorities said on  Tuesday that a top member of the al-Aqsa Brigades (the military arm of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement ) killed  during a military operation in the West Bank.

According to a joint statement from the Israeli military and domestic intelligence service Shin Bet, Ibrahim al-Nablusi was responsible for a string of attacks against Israeli soldiers in the region, as per reports.

Weapons and explosives were discovered during the attempted arrest. Al-Nablusi and two additional deaths were confirmed by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

During the operation, there were about 40 people who suffered gunshot wounds. It is believed that the death of al-Nablusi may spark additional clashes.

Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement in the Gaza Strip agreed to a ceasefire on Sunday following three days of combat. With airstrikes directed towards Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli military began the military operation known as "Breaking Dawn" on August 5.

Two jihadi military chiefs were killed during the operation. According to military sources, Palestinian insurgents have launched more than 1,000 rockets against Israeli settlements since the conflict started. The Gaza Strip was attacked by 200 of them. The operation against Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip should be viewed as a continuation of a long-running war in the West Bank.

The army has been conducting more anti-terrorist operations in Israel since a wave of terror there in the spring.
