ISRO to launch India's heaviest rocket, countdown begins

New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch 36 broadband communication satellites through its heaviest rocket LVM3-M2. Its countdown has started. This will be ISRO's first satellite to be launched for commercial use. The satellite will be launched from Satish Dhawan space centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The 43.5-meter-long rocket will be launched at 12.07 am on Sunday.

According to the report, it is one of the heaviest rockets with the capacity to carry satellites up to 8,000 kg. ISRO has said that Sunday's launch is significant, as the LVM3-M2 mission is the first dedicated commercial mission for ISRO's commercial arm- NewSpace India Limited. The mission is being run as part of a commercial arrangement between NewSpace India Ltd and UK-based Network Access Associates Ltd (OneWeb Ltd).

According to ISRO, the mission will carry 36 satellites of OneWeb, becoming the first Indian rocket to go with a payload of up to 5,796 kg. India's Bharti Enterprises is a key investor in OneWeb. According to media reports, this is NSIL's first mission with LVM3, also the first time that an Indian rocket will have a payload of six tons.
