NEW DELHI: Dr. S. Somnath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), said on Tuesday that investments in the space program have significantly benefited society, including the creation of numerous job opportunities. He emphasized the importance of recognizing the broader impacts of these investments. "We commissioned a study with consultants to assess the societal impact of our space program investments," Somnath said at the event titled 'Creating a Space Ecosystem: A New Era-Igniting Young Minds for Space Exploration.'
Somnath pointed out the extensive support systems developed for various sectors like fishing, agriculture, and disaster management, noting the public excitement surrounding Chandrayaan's lunar landing. He highlighted how ISRO's technological advancements have led to job creation and support across multiple sectors.
Recently, ISRO successfully launched the EOS-08 Earth Observation Satellite aboard the SSLV-D3 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar praised ISRO for the EOS-08 launch, describing it as a step towards more cost-effective missions and increased international cooperation. The EOS-08 mission, which includes designing a microsatellite with new technologies, aligns with ISRO's focus on innovation.
As India prepares to celebrate National Space Day on August 23, commemorating Chandrayaan-3's successful lunar landing, ISRO's achievements continue to inspire and engage the younger generation in space science and technology.
