It is impossible to impose curbs everywhere: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee

On Thursday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that blanket bans are not possible because they would damage the economy. She advised people to be wary of the fast-spreading Omicron strain, but not to be alarmed. After assessing the circumstances, CM Banerjee stated the state will decide on any restrictions. On Monday, she has a review meeting.

"Covid has already damaged the economy. People would face increasing financial difficulty if we choose for limits everywhere. Only after analysing the situation will decisions be made "Reporters were briefed by the CM. "We must ensure that the people's safety and security are not jeopardised. We'll make a decision soon. We'll concentrate our efforts in areas where the number of cases is increasing. We cannot impose restrictions everywhere since this would have an adverse effect on the economy, as it has in the previous two years "she stated

According to the CM, "It's pointless to set up containment zones all over the place. Let's take a look at the scenario first. We'll take a look at what's going on at schools and universities. We'll also look to see if Omicron is spreading among children. Following that, a decision will be made. In the previous six to seven months, Covid had decreased. Hospitals that were previously only treating Covid patients began to use the specialised beds to serve other patients. Although Omicron is not lethal, it is rapidly spreading."

When asked if there will be any restrictions on Gangasagar and Park Street, the CM stated, "This is a national event with attendees from all across the country. I won't be able to stop anyone since Gangasagar belongs to all of us. How will we put an end to the New Year's celebrations? We shall, however, keep a tight eye on things."
