NEW DELHI : In a joint announcement, the IT Ministry and Google have revealed their extended partnership aimed at promoting awareness of online cyber safety among citizens in the country.
As part of this collaboration, the renowned technology company will join forces with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to amplify the reach of their 'Stay Safe Online' campaign. They will accomplish this through various initiatives, including educational programs focused on cyber safety literacy, creation of multilingual digital content covering online safety topics, and development of educational resources on navigating online information.
Sanjay Gupta, Country Head and Vice President of Google India, emphasized the significance of ensuring inclusivity and safety for all, given the staggering number of over 700 million Indians utilizing the internet and the country's pioneering advancements driven by digital technologies.
Google's commitment to fostering online safety involves promoting the fundamentals of secure internet usage through their 'Be Internet Awesome' program. This initiative will provide valuable content encompassing a wide range of online safety subjects.
Akash Tripathi, CEO of MyGov, highlighted the opportunity presented by India's G20 Presidency to shape a model of the internet that prioritizes inclusivity and establishes new global standards. He stressed the urgent need to educate citizens of all ages about the risks associated with the online realm and encourage the adoption of safety measures and cyber hygiene practices to protect themselves.
Collaborating with the IT Ministry, Google aims to enhance user awareness regarding cyber fraud. Their efforts will focus on assisting individuals in identifying common types of online scams and adopting best practices to safeguard against them.
